Event Name: International Women’s Day Celebration
Date: 08th March 2022

Location: Samvaad Hall

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Women in Engineering (WIE) in association with Women Development Cell (WDC) organized an event on account of "International Women’s Day" on 8th March 2022 from 02:00 pm to 04:00 pm at college hall. 120 participants including the teachers and college staffs attended the event. The objective of the event was to empower and encourage women and the youths on occasion of International Women’s Day. The event consisted of a speech from our guests Ms. Harshala Chavan and Mrs. Parita Amin; followed by a self-defence workshop conducted by Mr. Akash Kandukuri and his team.

Ms. Harshala Chavan

Our first speaker for the event was Ms. Harshala Chavan. She is the founder of merrative.com. She completed her graduation in chemical engineering from DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering. She had 4 years of experience in the content marketing industry. She had created a community of 5000+ avid readers to create, curate and discuss ideas from digital literature, together.

Mrs. Parita Amin

Our second speaker for the event was Mrs. Parita Amin. She had completed her graduation in Electronics Engineering from our college and then did masters in Communications Engineering from the University of Massachusetts. Initially she worked as a senior software engineer with Cisco Systems and then joined Accenture in India to support learning & leadership development for FMCG industries. Currently she is in Deloitte supporting learning and development in technology. She was granted the Leadership DNA award in 2020 across global Accenture and the Culture and Core Value Ambassador Award for being a global collaborator.

Mr. Akash Kandukuri

Our facilitator for the workshop was Mr. Akash Kandukuri who is a 5th Dan black belt with 10 years of experience. By profession he is a civil engineer and is the founder of "Dhanurveda Martial Arts and Calisthenics". He had taught self-defense to AAWC which is an anti-trafficking non-profit organization that serves women in brothel based prostitution and their children. He had trained several people from smile foundation.

Our host started the event by a small introduction of International Women’s Day and about IEEE – WIE CRCE council. Then our senior council members felicitated our guests. We also launched IEEE – WIE CRCE official website.
Our first speaker Ms. Harshala Chavan gave her speech. Her topic for the event was about career and ways to achieve the goals for youths. She mentioned how today’s generation should invest their time in gaining knowledge on useful websites and applications. She also mentioned her real life experience and the difficulties she faced. As she completed her speech, our host requested Mrs. Sapna Prabhu who is the branch mentor of IEEE – CRCE to award a memento to Ms. Harshala Chavan as a token of love.



Our second speaker Mrs. Parita Amin continued the event by introducing herself. She spoke about the challenges she faced in her life and mentioned about the struggle and her growth in career. She spoke about the ways to achieve the goals and about problem-solving attitude. She advised all the participants to be confident and calm in every situation. As Mrs. Parita completed her inspirational and motivational speech, our host requested Mrs. Sapna Prabhu to award a memento to her as a token of love.



A five minutes’ break was taken to distribute snacks to all the teachers, staff members and the guests. Then, a self-defence workshop held for all the students. A team member from self-defence group gave a very beautiful speech about the importance of self-defence. The aim of the workshop was to promote some self-defence techniques for critical situation, abusive crime, etc. Mr. Akash and his team started to teach some techniques on the stage. The students replicated those moves on each other. To make more efficient and ease all students were divided into four lines of groups eventually into pair of boys and girls.
As Mr. Akash completed his wonderful and exciting workshop, our host requested Mrs. Sushma Nagdeote who is the branch counsellor of WIE – CRCE to offer certificates to Mr. Akash and his team.



Lastly, snacks and beverages were distributed to all the participants and sanitary pads were offered to all women present in the event which was sponsored by Stay Free Company. The outcome of the event was to encourage and empower women in our college. To spread the awareness of gender equality and to protect yourself by the self-defence techniques.
